Frigidaire FAX052P7A Window Unit Air ConditionerReviewsI sent this air conditioner back because it was caved in on one side. Definitely did not happen in shipment as the box was intact. Had to go thru the trouble to return it. Amazon made the return easy but I still had to drive this thing to the Post office and place it on the counter! FUN! I would only buy an air conditioner from a store but I guess the same thing could have happened there. The box looks fine, then you get it home, cut the whole box open and find that it's caved in on one side! I received an email from Amazon that I should be receiving my refund shortly. I like the air conditioner. I was nervous from reading the reviews that it would be very noisy, but it seems no noisier than any other air conditioner. I have a "cage" around my window (bars, which are commonplace in city apartments) so I needed something super shallow. This one was far too deep, but I did something that the manufacturer probably wouldn't recommend: I duct taped all the vents that would be inside my apartment and then used insulation around the screens and in the window to make a barrier. I was afraid that this might reduce the effectiveness of the unit, but it has worked fine all summer, even in very hot and humid conditions. Though I wouldn't mind it being even colder, the BTUs are appropriate and my room is very cold. I would recommend this air conditioner as one that works well and has moderate noise -- even when jury-rigged. I bought this to quiet my wife about it being too hot to sleep. It worked. We only needed it for sleeping and so looked for something small. It cools our bedroom fairly quickly but I wish it had a thermostat. I found myself waking up to turn it off or down. If it is cold enough to use more than a single sheet then it is too cold. It is not as good, as the five year old Gold Star model, that we replaced it with. It is not very cold, and is noisy. The size however, worked well in our window. This little air conditioner was the perfect choice for my bedroom/office area. About 500 sq ft, it cools it perfectly and sometimes I turn it down or even off. It is nice and quiet and fits perfectly into my window. The price certainly was worth the buy on this item. Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote ControlReviewsWe like it for our spare bedroom! Working great! I highly recommend this product and seller!! I love how my air condition was shipped in a timely manner. It really cools my room and I love how it is all digital and has its own remote control. Thanks! Purchased it for bed room size 15' x 12'. Happy with the performance. However, installation manual does not have sufficient detail and need some improvement. It took couple of trials and errors before final installation due to poor quality manual. 5 points for easy installation and performance and 3 points for installation instruction manual. I'll make this a quick review. This little window air conditioner, cools down my very hot bedroom. I live in Palm Springs, California, where it can easily reach 110+ degrees F in the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall. My bedroom has a big 42-inch plasma, that heats up the room, and I also have the sun shine on my room almost all day. This air conditioner was very easy to set up, comes with a remote control, and I'll finally be able to sleep in a nice cool (or cold, if I so choose) bedroom. I give this product an A grade. I think this is the best value for 165 sq ft. Inexpensive, efficient (energy star), relatively quiet and does the job. I am very sensitive to noise, especially sudden sounds, but I could sleep with no problems. When the compressor turns on, it is not sudden, but gradual. If you can sleep during rain, you should have no problems with this unit. Another complain was water inside the unit. Yes, it is there and all AC's have it. However, it is on the outside and you can only hear (and see) it outside. It will take you about 30 minutes to install (some assembly is required). The instructions are somewhat confusing, but it is relatively easy - all you need is a screw driver. Comparing to my previous AC, this one is considerably lighter. The only problem I found was a narrow hole under the air conditioner. I am not sure why it is there, but I closed it with a piece of tape (included). I was planning to buy another unit, but my rooms are either much larger or the windows are too narrow. Average Rating:![]() |

Frigidaire EA108T Through-the-Wall 18 Inch Sleeve KitReviewsI bought this product from Abt after they told me on the phone it was required for a Frigidaire FASxxxxxx installation. They were wrong. The FAS family of A/C's are 18" high, this box is approx 14" high. The FAS family can be installed through a wall without a sleeve, the A/C metal outside is a sleeve in itself. The sleeve sold here is for a masonry wall. I was replacing an existing through the wall unit with another. The new unit was all I needed. This sleeve was a waste as well as the $23 I spent to return it. Abt gave me bad advice. I'll not use them again Be forewarned!!!. Cutting into your wall is not a simple task. This is NOT a window box it IS a kit to install a window unit through a wall you Will need to create a hole in the wall to put this through. I've installed kits like this a few times it's a wonderful idea for a pertinent installation of what is normally considered a tacky yet important appliance. Things you should know before starting this project. Location of studs. (you will need to put this box in between studs never cut through a stud to install this device. If the stud spacing is to small consult a professional before you attempt an install. or risk you whole wall collapsing with half your roof.) if you must cut through a support you will need a double header and footer around the box. Location of outlets and wires inside the wall (You don't want to cut through any wire/pipe in your wall so don't put this OVER a plug as most plugs are dropped in from the attic or above(even if you live in a trailer.) Ok dangerous part over with. :) These last few items and hints are just for looks. 1. Get some molding to go around the exposed edge. 2. Have some foam or flashing to put on the outside of the box or risk water inside the wall in storms (basic stuff) 3. Have all the tools you'll need BEFOR you punch that hole in the wall. 4. Have a friend on standby just in case. Not all kits will have molding or (make pretty) bits a bobs so expect to go to a home supply outlet of some-sort Installing these isnt all that hard a proficient carpinder can do it in under an hour. But expect to spend most of the day on it. think weekend project take it slow. Oh ya almost forgot. run the AC on a flat surface for a while BEFORE you start in on the box and figure out how much of an angle you will need to insure the blasted thing drains OUTSIDE! and i mean let it run for a while it takes upwerds of 5 hrs to get a liquid buildup enough to drip. Depending on the kit itself and your local humidity you may need to drill in a drain hole near the back of the kit (NOT THE AC) the kit! don't go drilling into your AC Tools i used. Tape Measure Level Drill Hammer nails/screws Screwdriver bit for drill. Saws-all Flashlight dust mask (drywall dust and junk) screw driver (for where the drill wont catch) old sheet/tarp drill bits. one big one for starting the saws-all (double header) one to two 2x4's Ripsaw (hand saw circular saw .. something to cut the 2x4) LONG nails and or wood screws (DO NOT USE DRYWALL SCREWS) Spare Drywall the hole inside will probably be larger than the required size for the box if you have to make a header. (drywall make pretty junk) To make your life a little more easy use some header hangers (steel strips to hold up the header instead of just nails. to create the header. open the wall back untill you can see 3 studs Cut the center stud out to the apropret gap. Cut the 2x4's to the length to span the gap between the 2 outer studs you will need 4 of these. Check your fit Screw the 2x4's together lengthways to make them 4x4's Use the hangers or nail in these new headers to the other studs and secure the center stud to the header. the connection point to the outer studs is the important part. Pick where you want your box cut the outer hole and install. Patch Drywall make it nice and install molding around the box slide the AC plug it in and enjoy the cold air. :) Average Rating:![]() |

Haier 5,200 BTU Mechanical Air Conditioner - HWF05XC7ReviewsOk, so my mother bought this for me since my A/C keeps breaking in my apartment (a very old unit). It worked when we first turned it on. We didn't keep it on for long, we were just testing it out. Then I turned it on that night so I could sleep. Within the first 10 minutes I started hearing this tapping like noise. At first I thought it was plastic that had dropped into the vent when we opened it. So I endured a night of little sleep, with the pillow being kept over my head as much as possible. My husband came to lay down that night, but ended up sleeping on the couch. I couldn't of course, since I am pregnant and need cool air to regulate my body temperature. The next day he checked to see if there was plastic in the vent like I originally thought, but there was nothing. The second night, it gets worse. And it makes me feel sick the next day, even though its not blowing on max. I put it on fan low on setting 4 to 5. My throat is so sore! I feel like I slept outside in the cold. But it doesn't make since because when I woke up in the middle of the night I was sweating because I was so hot. My husband slept on the couch again. I would rather sleep in my car burning precious expensive gas then to barely sleep every night and come down with a severe cold because of this unit. I will be making an attempt to bring it back... if we can find the receipt. If not, its going in the garbage... even though I want to chunk it in the window of the main office of Haier.... The A/C works very well. Not too noisy, runs very smooth. It cools the room i have it in well. The delivery time was faster than what they had stated. all in all the whole transaction went well. I returned this after 2 weeks. Not quiet, makes a loud water gushing noise when turned on. After about a week, it started making "cracking" noises, I woke up one night and thought my window was breaking it was so loud. Ice formed on the coils EVERY night! I guess you get what you pay for. I went and bought a Kenmore (already own 2) for $139.99 at Sears. It is so quiet you cant even tell its on! Trust me, spend a few extra bucks and get better quality, its worth it for the good nights sleep. I picked one of these up for my bedroom. The installation instructions are hard to follow. I got it setup, and it does what it was designed to do -- it cools my bedroom quite nicely. It is not quiet, however. I wouldn't say it's obnoxiously loud, either -- but it is loud enough to be worth mentioning. The noise factor is the only thing I don't like about this unit. That said, it's nothing I wouldn't expect from an $80 air conditioner. I would give this 5 stars if it were quiet. Bottom line: I'd rather sleep with ear plugs and be cool, than have my bedroom be 90 degrees and quiet. UPDATE: I've had this thing for over a year now. It's LOUD LOUD LOUD. I can't even sleep in the same room as it with earplugs. It sounds like the fan blades are spinning in a pool of water. I ended up drilling some holes in the front of it where the water collects so it can run out into a bucket... but really, this unit is garbage. I take back my original 3 star review... 1 star all the way The air conditioner is a great value. It works fine and cools off a medium size room. However, the installation instructions are vague and hard to follow. Other than that issue...it is a good value for the money. Average Rating:![]() |
