Miallegro 1760 Air Ionizer Tower Fan with Remote Control (Oscillates internally)ReviewsI recently purchased two of these fans based on the review that I read on Amazon. They are relatively quiet and I like the small amount of space that they take up, but a BIG problem ... well ya see I had one of them on for about two weeks run and then it stopped. Lights are on, just no fan ... funny but not in a good way. If I knew the fan would have given out after on two months I would not have spent $60 on it. It looks cool, and has some cool features, but in the long run it just isn't cool that it doesn't cool. Trust me I have been through a couple of good brands sold at Costco (like seville ) and other brands like Honeywell. But none satisfied my criteria of quietness. I am bothered by the sound at night while sleeping and I don't really care about it in the day. The others would be OK for a day or two and then make a sound afterwards. But this little gem of a fan, is not only the best looking fan and fits into any modern home with its contemporary design, but is also the quietest by a big margin. I have had it for 4 months and I use it everyday and it hasn't made a sound that would bother me at night so far. Its almost whisper quite while oscillating. The only beef I have with it are the bright LED lights, which are actually functional as one can easily see the mode its running in compared to other fans. I got used to them so its not that bad. The remote is pretty good as well with a small form factor, wish they had lights on that too to see in the dark. Summary: I love this fan. I bought it having semi-high expectations - it blew them out of the water. The remote is very nice, the color of the fan fits with all my interior design/dark colored themes. It's sturdy and the design is perfect. Performance: The fan is SUPER COLD! I actually have to lower it to temperature setting II b/c III ends up being too cold. I used to sleep with AC on 68 - I know, I know, it's very cold. I now set my AC to 75 and sleep next to this fan blowing on me. It is the best thing and has already saved me $50-$100 off my expenses. Bottom line: Get the fan, you'll be very happy! This is a quiet, efficient fan. We loved the first one so much that we bought 2 more for other rooms in the house. Here was my original review I posted, until it died. My additions are at the bottom. For people who are worried about noise, and watched the video the other poster posted, remember, that was a directional mike on a camera very near the unit. I was shocked at how silent this is compared to my other fans. At high, this is still less noticeable than my Honeywell at low. Granted, it doesn't move as much air as that does at high, but I didn't want that much airflow unless I'm drying out my basement. For my great room, this is outstanding. When I have the TV on at a normal volume level, 12 feet away I can barely notice the fan noise at high. At medium, I can kind of notice it if I really try. I've got oscillating space heating towers, and as others have complained, the rotating unit is annoying and distracting. This accomplishes a great range of motion with only a small portion inside noticable as it moves. And that's more seeing light behind it as the inner mechanism pivots side to side and you are lined up right. There was no smell or noise along with the ionizing on this unit, but by the same token I haven't noticed anything accumulating around the base as their customer support told me I would when I asked about cleaning the unit. Their reply was that there is nothing to clean in or on the unit, that the "dirt" will fall to the floor near it. I have no rattling, no unusual noise at all, on any of the settings from the oscillation, no wobble, nothing. It is incredible on low, because the room feels fresher, you get some slight air movement occasionally as it passes you, but nothing too obvious. Very subtle and very silent. On medium, same thing just a bit more of the breeze. High, it's enough to make me comfortable after work when the house reached 81 degrees since I had the air off all day, without having to turn on the air conditioner. Now compared to my smaller "turbo" honeywell circular fan, it's not as powerful - but then towers would never be that powerful as far as I can tell. If you need a very huge blast of air, this isn't for you. But if you're looking for something to make your area more comfortable without the annoyances of a standard fan, this is definitely a solution for you. Most attractive of all the ones I've looked at, blends very well into the room unobtrusively, and does its job well. Which is what I always look for, something designed well and functions well. This is and does. EDIT: 24 hours later, the unit no longer oscillates. Light comes on, but the internal mechanism simply no longer operates. So returning it. Went from 5 star review to 3, won't give it a 1 since clearly this is not a "normal" issue otherwise all these people who reviewed would've had a different story, but also obviously it's a crapshoot... Miallegro 1780 Tower Fan, Sophisticated Brushed Metal with Remote ControlReviewsThe fan was pretty good, but the oscillator broke in just 2 months. Thanks to American express return protection plan I was able to get all my money back even though the 30 days return period had expired and Amazon and Millegro were not going to accept the return. Given that it broke in just less than 2 months I don't think it is a good product. I have one other from Honeywell, not so fancy, but has been running great past 4 years and more. Just got my Miallegro 1780 fan. Installation was quite easy. It took me about 5 minutes. Basically, you unscrew, put the base on, and screw 6 bolts back. There was nothing else to be done. Compared to a regular fan, it is relatively quiet. But it is not super quiet as some of the comments stated. When the fan is set at low you CAN hear the fan running during the day. If you have some people over and have music on on the background, maybe you won't hear the fan running. When the fan is set at high the noisy level will be equivalent to a regular fan at Medium speed. The amount of air the fan is blowing was of my primary concern when I ordered the item. The concern was immediately gone when I turned it on the first time. Note that this fan is not a complete room air-circulating fan. It is to keep one or two persons cool. Well, very cool. The fan looks fantasitic. It's quite tall! The entire fan has the "Made In Italy" look except the bottom of the fan, the buttons on the fan body, and the remote control. They have the cheap "Made In CHINA" feel. But then those are small parts relative to its entirety. The 5 operating buttons on the fan body changes their colors as the mode changes. For example, set at low speed, the fan button goes red. set at mid speed, it goes orange (but it looks redish). high speed changes the color to green. Set at 2-hour timer, the timer button goes red. set at 4-hour timer, the button goes orange (again it looks almost red). Set at 8-hour timer, it goes green. There are 5 buttons: Power On/Off, Fan speed(low, mid, high), Osil. On/Off, Timer(off, 2hr, 4hr, 8hr), Wind type (fixed air flow/natural air flow). Set at Natural air flow the fan changes its speed automatically (low to high to low to mid to high to mid to low) as if it is simulating outside wind. I can't think of any circumstances where I would use that functionality but.. It's there for some people. The bottom line is 1) it looks great! 2) good air flow! 3) relatively quiet! 4)it looks like a $95.00 fan! I hope its durability is as good, too! We shall see! It's refreshing to finally find a fan that not only keeps you cool but looks cool. It's elegant and functional. Personally, I had no trouble assembling it - it took me about ten minutes, and that was before I found the instructions. If you like European design, this fan is for you. 1. It is pretty and it arrived on time. Nothing else good can be said about it. Impossible to assemble properly. Meant only for use in Venezuela. 2. The buyer must attach the cylinder upright to a slippery, two-part base. This is a feat of imagination thanks to practically non-existent instructions. 2. After three fruitless hours of manipulating the eleven accompanying screws, it occurred to me that the only screws left that might fit and hold in the crucial holes were already inside the bottom of the cylinder. They looked permanently fixed, but when I tried them with a Phillips screwdriver I found that they were loose and could be pulled out. Eureka. (This is not the actual word that I used). 3. Now the monster lives. It does not live well because it is a fragile, tottering masterpiece of Chinese junk. 4. There are more holes and perhaps if the left-over parts fit them the wobbling might stop. I have several short screws and a long one. And a strange, small rubber tube. Don't know what they do, so I've put them in a plastic bag and stapled it o the owner's "manual." 5. The creature was accompanied by a long list of authorized dealers in Venezuela and a one-year warranty valid only in--you guessed it--Venezuela. 6. I have owned such fans before, and it never occurred to me that this one would not take the same AA or AAA batteries in its remote as the others. This one, however, requires two expensive button batteries (included, thank you very much). 7. The remote has a shorter and narrower range than any I have used before and its buttons sometimes require several hard punches before they will work. The whole %#@* thing is too heavy and unwieldy to wrap up and send back. I simply blew $95.00. 8. DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR MONEY ON THIS ONE, AS I HAVE. Buy a cheaper, user-friendly fan. This is a TRUE and remarkable example of customer service! Sharp AF-R50DX Library Quiet Window Air ConditionerReviewsI am very pleased with this machine and am very satisfied with the low noise level. The fan is certainly audible but not at all loud. But the good part is that you can hardly tell when the compressor kicks in - Quite a difference from my GE a/c in another room. I expected colder air temperature from the machine but a small room is stilled cooled in a short time. The SEER number is very good and the price was very good. Quite satisfied. I have this in my 14x16 bedroom and it keeps the room and the adjoining room quite cool. Good buy for the price!! Generally that's a good unit, especially for its price. It's not exactly "library quiet" (we all know what the level of noise in libraries is) but I was told its good comparing to others. We all know that Japanese consumer electronics and not only electronics devices are far better than American, for example. A few disappointing things in this unit though - the "energy saving" feature only allows you to set the unit so that when the compressor stops the fan stops also after 10 seconds. One would expect this to be by default but Sharp did not do it in this way - instead you must press a special button to put the unit into "saving" mode. This gets reset when you power it down and this button is not on the remote, so if you don't want the noise of the fan at all times you must get up from your arm-chair and go to the unit. I guess I can't exactly specify much more features for a unit of this price but I think that energy efficient technology nowadays must be not just a brand trick as it seems with this unit. They should invest in quieter less energy consuming compressors and then the AC would be "energy saving". Because a fan is a motor which consumes only several watts it is not something that we'd save much and have cleaner environment. The unit has also only indication in Fahrenheit, no Celsius which is a world-side standard so it would have been nice to have a button and switch between these two modes. I got this unit for 179.00$ in PC Richards when it got hot so I am contributing this report here and to say that the Amazon price rocks! I bought this unit in, I believe, 2001. OK, it is not "noisefree". However, compared to other units I have used (Goldstar, Maytag, Haier), it is MUCH quieter. The Goldstar is a lousy 2-piece design that never stops rattling. The Maytag--the loudest compressor I've ever heard. The Haier was pretty good, easily half as quiet as the Maytag (both were priced around $79). However, the Sharp was probably half as loud as even the Haier. It is pricier, though. But if you want a relatively quiet 5000BTU unit, I think this is a good one to get. Works fine - but its not anywhere near "library quiet." Indeed, it's pretty loud. Average Rating:![]() |

8,000 BTU Library Quiet Remote Control Mid-Size Air ConditionerReviewsI have a Sharp Library Quiet A/C and it's so noisy I have to turn it off to listen to the television. I don't recommend it. If you buy cheap, you get cheap. I can strongly recommend the Sharp Library Quiet Window Air Condtioners. They are excellent quality, quiet, durable and easy-to-use. I have three of them so I speak with experience. The fan has 3 speeds and the temperature control is digital. The unit even has a remote control, but I have never even used it. I just set the temperature at about 73 degrees and the air conditioner takes care of everything. The Sharp Window Air Condtioner is attractive, powerful and simple-to-use. The listing is for the 80DX. My units are 60DX which are 6,000 BTU. They are less powerful and more affordable than the 80DX listed selling at around $130. I have found that even the 60DX is quite powerful. One unit cools the kitchen and the dining room and has enough left over to take some of the heat out of the living room. My two other units are in two bedrooms. I only run one unit during the day and sometimes, but not always, use the bedroom units at night. The one unit is very easy on electricity.
