My husband and I decided to buy this AC because our upstairs bedroom was so hot at night. We didn't want to spend a lot of money and only needed the bedroom to be cold for sleeping. The unit works just fine. If you turn it on full blast, it takes roughly 30 minutes or less to get pretty cool / cold. We have noticed that it sometimes makes a clicking noise when it is running, and we aren't sure why. Usually, it's not enough to really wake us up, but we have turned the unit off in the past to make it stop clicking in the room while we sleep. Overall, it's a good, cheap option for a small room. Just as a side note, remember that this unit does not come with a remote.

I bought this AC for a small 6'x 12' study which adjoins my 10'x16' bedroom--both rooms are on the top floor which bake all day. When I'm in the study, I have to set it at low cool because it gets too cold. On unbearably hot nights, I first cool the bedroom with another AC in that room, then I just use the Frigidaire in the study. The Frigidaire keeps the bedroom comfortable all night without the AC noise being in the same room--which was the reason I hardly used the bedroom AC in the first place. Love this little baby!

I spent quite a bit of time researching A/C before purchasing. We live in Oregon and it doesn't get too hot but there's a month or two in the summer where the heat and humidity get oppressive in the house. I wanted an inexpensive, small, window A/C to increase the comfort. I wanted something small enough that I can store it the other 10 months. So, after much research I ordered this model. I was going to get the 6K BTU model with the electronic controls but I figured I would get something super cheap and if it didn't work I could use it as a single room cooler. Shipped free which makes this a pretty good deal. Arrived in about a week. Installation was easy, following the instructions in the manual. I did have to install and remove the A/C about 3 times to get all the sealing right. In the box there's a lot of different thicknesses of foam and foam tape. There is no specific instructions about what to do with this, except the stuff for the top gap of the upper sash. So, I experimented with various combos to get a good seal. We have recent vinyl windows with screens but no storms so the unit basically dropped right in. However, there are some gaps around the bottom in this configuration. I stuffed these with the thickest foam that came with the unit. This did the trick but didn't look too great. Luckly I ordered extra foam tape as another reviewer recommended, and I used small pieces of that to caulk around it inside and outside, leaving the big foam inside. It actually looks pretty neat and professional. $4 well spent ;) Anyway, the unit is installed in our main living room. We are in a 1940's box bungalow so this room is about half of the width and length of the house. The bedrooms and kitchen connect to it. With it on HI cool/Max(7) the entire house has been very cold and huge amounts of water have been pulled out. We will see how it performs in the upcoming week of 95+ temps. We keep a few $10 box fans around to circulate air so I can move the cold air around. One thing is that I have heard mentioned on a few other models is that the fan catches water in the pan and spits it around. This is a feature and not a bug ;). The unit is designed to pitch backward slightly when properly mounted. Moisture removed from the room collects at the bottom. The fan blade is coated in rubber and it's designed to suck water up and spray it on the evaporator coils. This facilitates some precooling of the outside air. It drastically increases efficiency. I would not drill drain holes, as other people have mentioned. Summary: $100, and my house is cold AND quiet. You can't say much more. If it's not enough for the hottest day I might get one more and move them to the bedrooms. It's very quiet on low but I like white noise.. I hope it lasts, even if it doesn't I'd gladly pay another $100 in 2 years.

I bought this a/c mainly because of the price. It has completely exceeded my expectations. It is cooling three rooms in the downstairs of our house (about 600 sq ft). And I have yet to change it over to "high cool". It's also quieter than I expected. Well worth it's low price!

I got it hoping it would keep my apartment cool-ER. I expected it to keep it comfortable, not cold. I also had a bit of a problem with size. The only window that opens in my house is a vertical sliding window, which Air Conditioners I can afford, aren't made for. Once I received it, I started to assemble and install. Originally I was going to leave the extensions off, since my window was only 18 inches wide, but after I got it and thought about it more, I realized they could still help keep it supported. So I put them on. They are about an inch inside the window, to help it from falling out. Also, I originally hoped to buy some wood and put that above it, but once I saw how sturdy it was with just the extensions, I put cardboard above it and plastic taped around the edges with duct tape. Very red neck, I know. It's sealed with the help of some other bits that came with it to help seal it. I installed it a little over 12 hours ago and my home is cold. I live in a house above a garage. Just a large living room, average bathroom and small bedroom. It's 621 SQ Feet.(assuming I did the math correctly. 23 x 27 feet.) This is total, but there are 3 separate rooms here. (Also, I have a low ceiling, only 6.5 Feet.) I placed it in my only opening window in the living room and it keeps the bathroom cold which is closest, and my bedroom pretty cold too, which is farthest. A lot larger than advertised for. I didn't care, I needed a little cooler than I had. Before, it was hotter inside than it was outside. I have it on high, but will consider turning it down, which I never thought I would do. I like the cold. It's THAT cold. For $110, I got an amazing air conditioner that perform WAY better than expected/advertised and it got here exceptionally fast too. It arrived 4 days after I ordered it with standard shipping and handling. I am a very happy costumer.

Much like the other one-star review, I got one with a functional compressor and a dead fan. Frigidaire confirmed that it would need to be returned, so I ran with it. Amazon was great on this part, cross-shipping the replacement with one-day shipping. A+ on that regard. However, today I get my replacement, and it's the same deal. This one, when I turn the fan on, I can hear it start to spin and then bump into something. I dig out the flashlight and a coat hanger to spin the fan blade so I can see what it's hitting, figuring something might have gotten bumped or dinged in shipping. Lo and behold, the copper pipes are routed through the path of the fan. I'm going to repeat that. The copper pipes leading from the compressor are routed through the path of the fan. There is literally no way the fan would ever work without physically contorting the frame of the unit to bend the compressor mount just far enough out of the way. How this ever passed QC I will never know, but you can believe I won't ever be buying another Frigidaire product. Defects occur, it's part of the normal situation. This, however, was just poor engineering in the first place.

When the unit arrived, the compressor worked, but the fan did not. I called one of the repair centers that Frigidaire provide, and they said that this was a "replacement unit," and that it could not be repaired. Now we're stuck with a useless AC in our window and nobody to come repair it. BLARGH. EDIT: After spending more time on the phone with Frigidaire, I found out that a replacement unit is one that cannot be repaired. They have to have the entire unit replaced. Evidently, someone will call me to arrange an exchange of some sort. There's really no way this could be less convenient.

I just installed this, no problems, I'm very happy with it. I was going to buy the 8000 BTU model FAA086P7A just above it, but the reviews were very negative due to noise. This unit is quiet, and 6000 BTU turns out to be more than enough for my application. Technically, this may be a discontinued model, as the Frigidaire website lists FAA065P7A at the time I purchased this. The latter unit, which is still available through Amazon sellers but not via Amzn Prime, has a slightly higher EER of 10.7 (vs 9.7 for this). If there is any other difference, I can't see it in the pictures or the description. This is a good unit, with some sophisticated features, like a fan that senses sudden changes in temperature, as when a door opens, in which case it automatically blows harder to cool down the room. Pretty nifty. It has a quality build, with a nicely finished steel cabinet with thick enamel finish. The remote is easy to use and works well. Most important, the unit cools well, and does so quietly. I do recommend it.

Window Unit Support Kit (Heavy Duty) Air Conditioner Bracket Window Unit Support Kit (Heavy Duty) Air Conditioner Bracket

This device is NOT universal. I live in a pre-war apartment building in Manhattan. The facade is brick with drip edges around the windows - very common. This product basically does not work with this kind of wall. I bought the small one, based on the the size of our a/c unit, but the bracket was way too short and did not extend out far enough for the support arm to reach the outside wall. So I bought the larger one, which was designed for A/Cs much bigger than ours, and has a longer bracket but still it did not fit the wall. The only way I managed to get it to work was by using the longer bracket but with the support arm from the smaller one. It still is not that great but it is better than nothing. And for a grand total of over $80.. 1/3 of the cost of the a/c itself! My advice is try to check if it works on your building. It is not easy to tell until you get it home and try to install it.

I purchased the Heavy Duty Window Unit Support Kit after my super informed me that my air conditioner was installed incorrectly. The kit was easy to use and did the trick. My window unit is installed correctly and I do not have to worry about it falling out the window.

this thing is designed for a window that has a window ledge...mine doesn't, so this became very useless for me right when I opened it up and TRIED to use it...very nice paper weight though...if you get this, make sure you have like 4 inches of ledge or this will also become very useless to you too...the one that came with the A/C unit I bought works better then this does....that one is really universal...wait to buy something like this unless you KNOW you need it....other then that I couldn't use it...it would have work perfictly if I did in fact have a ledge like it was designed for :)

Not exactly thrilled with an item which cannot be installed per instructions. The nylon attach mechanisim was so thick I had to redrill the metal portion and attach it with additional screws. Now I have several pieces of nylon cluttering my garage. Had I tried to install the included nylon fittings the airconditioner would have been 2" off the lower sill. Make your own bracket.

The air conditioner window unit support brace was easy to install on my pre-assembled shop building and provided a strong support for the A/C unit. It was designed for buildings with a full-size window sill, but my window sill could be adapted to fit the brace. I used a hammer and sharp chisel to cut away a part of the aluminum channel for the window screen (which I am not using anymore) to make room for the plastic support to fit flat on the sill. I also had to add a 2x4 brace under the window sill for the attaching screws to screw into. I made sure that the window brace was slanted down to provide water drainage from the A/C unit.

Just recieved the unit today. Installing the top bar on it was odd, and more difficult than it needed to be, the screws didn't seem to grip to the main unit. Otherwise installation was easy. When you look through the louvers you can see light through the back of the unit, which doesn't seem right to me. And you can see the styrofoam that lines the unit quite well both through the louvers and through the back. So thats where they saved some $$. With the styrofoam exposed like that I don't think I'd leave the unit in the window to brave a New York winter. It also doesn't appear to be airtight. It does get the room cool. The fan speeds are high, higher and blastoff. Not really a 'low' option, and its not quiet but I like white noise when I sleep anyway. My next unit will have to have a remote though, and a digital temperature guage which this does not have. But that's for a richer time and a better economy. Until then, this one will work fine.

This is a great little air conditioner for the price. The only thing I wish it had is a thermostat to regulate the temperature. You must continually turn it on and off by hand to keep the room at the right temp. It does a great job though.

This air conditioner has been worth the money. Our central air just never gets the job done. Having bought this air conditioner has made all the difference. I would definitely recommend.

New unit was very noisy. Rather than return it, it was easier to it take to a local warranty repair center. I kept Amazon in the loop just in case, and they were gracious in offering to exchange the unit if I chose not to have it repaired. The repair center diagnosed the noise as a bad bearing in the fan motor. The blower motor was replaced, and the unit is OK now. The motor being bad right out of the box suggests that these units go through no testing at the factory, and quality control is low. After the repair, the overall noise level is about average which is OK with me. Most of the sound is the air movement swish of the blower. There is very little compressor sound when it is running, and a light "clunk" when the compressor turns off. This 12,000 BTU unit is the same physical size as the 8,000 BTU Frigidaire unit I am replacing. For what it's worth, the blower in the 8,000 BTU unit lasted two seasons. That might explain why Frigidaire has only a one-year warranty (which is really one season) on that part of the unit. Perhaps Frigidaire is trying to take over Haier's role as the industry purveyor of cheap appliances. I later found out that LG has a five-year warranty on everything -- no need to buy an extended warranty. Frigidaire has five years only on the compressor, one year on everything else. The repair guy at the warranty repair center said he has seen only two LG units in the five years he has been there. Having gone through multiple window units, I'll offer the advice that, in order to get the high EER ratings, these things (all brands) use delicate fins on the heat exchangers the design and spacing of which easily accumulate micro dust particles in spite of the filter. The moisture on the fins along with the dust encourages the growth of mold if the fins are not meticulously cleaned. But the delicate nature of the fins along with the presence of the electronic controls means you can't do like the old days where you took the thing out of the chassis and washed it out at the local car wash. Cleaning the fins now requires something like using a strong shop vac and a tooth brush to carefully comb fins clean at the end of each season. In other words: It might have a high EER when you get it new, but it doesn't stay that way for long. It's too bad the EER is only for brand new in the lab, and no thought is given to the EER over a typical lifespan of the product.
